Mayra Pereira of Mozambique had made sustainability and transformation towards a greener future for all, the motto and vision of her business.

Gaia EES Consulting is driving the concept of Gaia as life, the very soul of the earth. Ancient tradition believed that she is a goddess who, by all accounts, inhabits the planet, offering life and nourishment to all her children. In the ancient civilizations, she was revered as mother, nurturer and giver of life.

According to Pereira, her consulting company intends to be an impact-driven, reference business, acting at the same as an agent of change with women at the forefront of ensuring an equitable and sustainable future for all.

With more companies focusing on reshaping the future of the planet, environmental decisions, as well as social and governance issues, had become the future of the planet. Gaia EES Consulting is assisting them to achieve this.

Specialising in renewable energy, environment and sustainability fields for longer than a decade, Maya Pereira obtained an MSc in Environmental and Geographical Sciences and BSc (Hons) in Environmental Management from the University of Cape Town. She focuses on policy, feasibility studies, the management of large-scale projects and business development services, bringing research and policy together where business and sustainability meet.

Her consulting firm assists businesses, co-operation partners, governments and civil societies in Mozambique and sub-Saharan countries to move towards a sustainable low-carbon future and adopting greener energy options.

Pereira realised that a need for definite and profound change existed and with equitable projects, focusing on greater inclusion and equality of women, she had been involved with such programmes since the start of her career. She rightly believes that with proper development and management, poverty could be successfully addressed and environmental and social preservation could become a reality.

Gaia EES Consulting, with Pereira at the helm and three other professionals as part of her team, brings an understanding of complex environmental, social and economic systems to build innovative solutions and develop instruments and vehicles to successfully operate and invest in the continent. The business also has a network of associate consultants in Southern Africa and Europe for the development of studies across a number of different disciplines.

As a true entrepreneur, Pereira and her team believe that, as Mahatma Gandhi said, that one should be the change one wishes to see in the world. Gaia is on the right trajectory to do just that.
