Instead of wearing a suit and investing other people’s money, Peter Kweku Anowie, found his “cool and profitable business,” manufacturing shoes from used materials. Using recycled materials such as used jeans, jute sacks and old car tires, Koliko Wear is a unique eco-fashion enterprise.
Becoming an entrepreneur was never part of Anowie’s life plan, but after assisting a friend whose business was failing with a small capital investment, he realised that his creative side was finding another outlet alongside his business expertise.

Anowie, a former business administration student from Takoradi in western Ghana, majored in banking finance, but took the bull by the horns and resigned from his job to embark on a career as shoe maker. His business skills stood him in good stead and wanting to leave a legacy to young people, he realised that Koliko Wear could teach them to become financially independent as well.
After only three years in the business, Anowie already employs twelve people who not only earn money for themselves, but take care of their extended family and friends. With the training and technical assistance of the Ghana Climate Change Innovation Centre (GCCIC), Koliko Wear’s aim is to make a large impact on society.

This enterprising young man with his excellent business credentials is currently ensuring that his books are up to date to secure investors – just as he did when he assisted his friend and found his calling.
