When Neidy Carvalho started as an independent environmental consultant seven years, she never thought she could be running her own thriving enterprise. The idea took of setting up her own company took shape soon after she completed her degree in environmental engineering and it was given further impetus following her participation in an involved bootcamp on entrepreneurship.

Basket of environmental services
In 2019 Carvalho launched Imbe CSS, a Mozambique-based environmental consultancy, to advise companies on how they can incorporate green and environmental practices in their operations. They also provide solutions and corrective interventions. In addition, she also provides engineering services. Currently, Imbe CSS’s basket of services includes: Environmental permits and audits, Environmental technical studies, Monitoring and evaluations plans, Water treatment plans and Related projects

Diversified portfolio of services
Although Carvalho started Imbe CSS to focus on environmental services and awareness, she later diversified her portfolio to cater other strategic areas such as water, health, safety and quality. Very recently she has moved into renewable energy space. Carvalho says what inspired her to start the company was her passion and the need to put to use her knowledge and understanding of the environment. “Throughout my career I noticed that small companies and individual entrepreneurs had limited access to environmental services due to many reasons and some even received warnings from the competent authorities,” says Carvalho.
She says she intervened on several occasions to help companies to resolve some of their environmental problems some of which were at advanced stages. And this is why she saw the need to make a difference in the environmental sector.

Enlisting youth participation
Carvalho also ensures she surrounds herself with a team of energetic and qualified youth whom she sees as key resources in helping to raise awareness about environmental sustainability. She emphasises the need to have more similar initiatives to promote and deepen environmental awareness across the African continent. She says wants to expand her business to create new services and globalise her services and brand. “I want to get the certifications that the company needs, reach more people, and continue to grow. We want to continue to help companies and others to be more sustainable as the planet requires of us,” says Carvalho.

Fulfiling her childhood dream
She says she is excited that she achieved one of her biggest dreams; that of setting up an environmental outfit to assist companies to reduce their carbon footprint. What gives her satisfaction, she says, is the freedom to put new ideas into action, adding value to ordinary people’s lives by ensuring their environment is clean and helping companies to reach their goals and potentials. Her ultimate dream is to grow Imbe CSS into a continental and global empire.
